Bronx apartment building fire that killed 19 people - including nine children - likely was caused by SPACE HEATER being used to keep bedroom warm: Homeowner left door open as they fled, spreading smoke and heat to every floor

New York City's worst fire disaster in more than 30 years killed nine children and ten adults, and left dozens more critically injured on Sunday. The five-alarm blaze erupted shortly before 11 am on the third floor of a 19-story building at 333 East 181st Street in the Bronx. 'Numerous' fatalities are anticipated, FDNY commissioner Dan Nigro said in a press conference. 'We didn't know what to do. We looked out the windows and saw all the dead bodies they were taking with the blankets,' Cristal Diaz, who lives in the fifth floor of the building, told the New York Post. Diaz's niece, 13-year-old Alanny, reportedly saw 'moms fainting at the sight of their kids dying.' The fire at the Twin Parks North West complex quickly progressed. At the scene, firefighters could be seen pulling desperate victims out of windows.

New York City's new Mayor Eric Adams appeared solemn Sunday as he spoke to reporters outside a Bronx apartment building where at least 19 people were killed in a fire. 'This is going to be one of the worst fires that we have witnessed during modern times,' he said. The sister-in-law accusing Michigan's former House Speaker of repeatedly raping her for more than a decade admits she often initiated contact with him - but says she only did so because she was 'brainwashed' and 'groomed' by him. Rebekah Chatfield, 26, came forward last week to detail her ordeal after filing the criminal complaint against Lee Chatfield last month. In the criminal filing, she accused Michigan's youngest House speaker in more than a century of sexually assaulting her multiple times while she attended Northern Michigan Christian Academy, which was run by his family. Rebekah - who claims the abuse began when she was 15 - conceded in an interview with Bridge Michigan that she at times reached out to Chatfield, but claimed she was under his spell during the time. 'It was never consensual, because it started when I was a minor - the brainwashing, the mentality, the manipulation, the psychological, the emotional - he groomed me into being who he wanted me to be,' she told the outlet. Chatfield, 33, was elected in 2014 and served as the state's House Speaker in 2019. The following year, he headed the delegation of seven Michigan GOP leaders who met with then-president Donald Trump at the White House as he tried to overturn Democrat Joe Biden's win in the state.

COVID will become 'endemic' by later this year say ex-Biden task-force member: US reports 900K cases in one day but deaths remain low at 2,615 even as America's services grind to a halt as 5M call in sick during surge

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a former member of President Joe Biden's Transition COVID Advisory Board, said on Sunday he expects COVID will become 'endemic' like the flu later this year, even as the United Stats recorded 900,832 new cases on Friday with 2,615 new deaths as the Omicron variant continues to spread rapidly throughout the United States. As a result, 5 million servicemembers throughout the country have called in sick with COVID, leaving police and fire departments short-handed, and patients being turned away from their local hospitals.

Leonidos Kostrikis, professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus, said the strain has a similar genetic structure to Omicron with the genomes of Delta.

'3,500 kids are in hospital, NOT 100,000': CDC Director Wallensky corrects liberal Justice Sotomayor's wildly false claim that 'over 100,000 children are seriously ill with COVID, many on ventilators'

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky contradicted Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor's incorrect claim that there are 100,000 pediatric COVID hospitalizations on Sunday. Justice Sotomayor, appointed by former president Obama, exaggerated the number of severe COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations among children as she attempted to convince conservatives Supreme Court justices that President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses should be enforced. On Sunday, Walensky contradicted Sotomayor's claims during a segment of Fox News Sunday. 'The number is not 100,000 It's roughly 3500 in hospitals now?' asked host Bret Baier. 'Yes. In fact, what I will say is, while pediatric hospitalizations are rising, they're still about 15 fold less than hospitalizations of our older age or age demographic,' Walinsky answered.

Thirty-four stranded ice fisherman RESCUED as they floated into Green Bay after huge chunk broke off from shoreline

Thirty-four people were rescued from a floating chunk of ice that broke away from the Green Bay shoreline on Saturday morning. The Brown County Sheriff's office said the ice floated about three-quarters of a mile out and continued to float away from shore during the rescue, cracking and rapidly deteriorating as the open water pounded at its edges. The rescue took 90 minutes to complete and no injuries were reported. The sheriff's office suspects the separation was caused by a barge traveling through the bay. A fisherman who was stranded on the chunk said the breaking of the ice sounded like 'somebody fired a gun'. Authorities are hoping the rescue, which was the largest in department history, will serve as a reminder that it is important to always maintain awareness of your surroundings when out on the ice.

Survivor Andréia Mendonça (left) recalled how holidaymakers were taking pictures at the waterfalls in southeast Brazil when part of the canyon collapsed (right, inset), killing at least ten people and seriously injuring nine. Mendonça told how she had even told the driver of their boat that she could see some pebbles falling, but he said it 'was nothing'. The collapse took place near a picturesque waterfall in a canyon located near the popular tourist village of Capitolio, in the southeast of Brazil, on Saturday. Rescuers recovered three more bodies from the lake on Sunday, raising the death toll to 10 in the disaster that injured more than 32 tourists. Dramatic footage captured the moment a huge slice of the rock wall broke off from the canyon on Furnas Lake and began to slowly fall forward on top of two tourist boats. Passengers can be heard screaming as the cliffside crashed directly on one of the boats, engulfing the other nearby ship and sending waves and debris flying to the other vessels touring the area.

Flavio Freitas, who had been sailing across Furnas Lake in 2012, posted a photo at the time showing a huge crack on the rock face of the canyon that has now collapsed and killed at least 10 people.

Kate Middleton is now known  for her radiant natural beauty, dewy skin, and perfect blow-dries, it's not always been this way. Her late 20s and early 30s saw her sport a more relaxed, and looser look - often with dark eyeliner and smokey eyes for day and night. The look of course was popular in the early 2010s, where the Duchess paired dark-lined eye with rosy cheeks, matte foundation and a glossy lip. Now, she's ditched her matte foundation for a more dewy look, with her also opting for smokey bronze hues in her eyes to look 'more on trend than ever'. alongside thicker, more natural brows and an altogether more radiant look. The golden colours appear more subtle and natural on camera, according to top make-up artist Laura Kay, which is perhaps a result of Kate becoming more media-savvy after 10 years in the Firm.

The Irish singer, 55, confirmed yesterday on Twitter that her son, who she described as 'the light of her life', had 'decided to end his earthly struggle'. Afghan baby who was handed to American soldiers to avoid being crushed during Kabul airlift is finally reunited with his family

Sohail Ahmadi was just two months old when he went missing on August 19 as thousands of people rushed to leave Afghanistan as it fell to the Taliban. Following an exclusive Reuters story published in November with his pictures, the baby was located in Kabul where a 29-year-old taxi driver named Hamid Safi (left, crying as he hands Sohail to his grandfather) had found him in the airport and took him home to raise as his own. After more than seven weeks of negotiations and pleas, and ultimately a brief detention by Taliban police, Safi finally handed the child back to his jubilant grandfather and other relatives still in Kabul. Inset: Sohail is handed to US soldiers to be evacuated.

Helen Carroll speaks to three British women breaking the taboo to reveal the hell of 'second menopause; Jill Slater, 78, (pictured right) Rae Redford, 59 (pictured left), and Rosemarie Webster, 82. Chatting with friends in a cafe, Jill Slater suddenly felt an all-too-familiar sensation of heat rising through her body and, sweating and red-faced, had to excuse herself from the table, fan in hand, to step outside. Her companions were baffled as she told them she was experiencing a hot flush, having themselves waved goodbye to such menopausal symptoms a couple of decades earlier. Having been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for 22 years, Jill believed 'the change', and all the misery it brought with it, was well and truly behind her. But now her menopausal symptoms, including sweats, low mood and thinning hair, were back with a vengeance. She's one of millions of British women who went on HRT when their menopause first hit in their late 40s or early 50s, little realising that if they came off it later in life, they'd experience menopause symptoms while withdrawing from it, as though having a 'second menopause'.
